Brainfog is a form of cognitive impairment which is a symptom of many medical problems. It has layers of severity and affects people differently, but even on the lower end it is more than enough to be disruptive to everyday life.

It can be caused by a temporary effect, such as a lack of sleep, up to a chronic condition, such as Multiple Sclerosis. For an extensive list of causes, check here.

Because brainfog is a symptom of a condition, you likely have other symptoms that are not caused by brainfog. It can be useful within your journey of discovering why you feel the way you do to group these symptoms so you can differentiate what is caused by brainfog with any other symptoms you may be experiencing. Check out our symptoms page to help you with that.

It is quite a journey for someone with brainfog to work out what the cause of their symptoms are, because there are so many possibilities, and brainfog is still only just being understood and accepted by the wider medical community. Most cases of brainfog are treatable. Other causes of brainfog may not treatable but there will be actions you can take to improve the quality of your life, such as reducing the intensity or frequency of brainfog you experience. Whether or not it is treatable depends on the condition causing it.
